Fiber optic particle plasmon resonance immunosensor for rapid and sensitive detection of methamphetamine based on competitive inhibition

We report the study of methamphetamine (MA) sensing in urine samples using fiber optic particle plasmon resonance (FOPPR) biosensor. This approach is intended for on-site analysis of low-molecular-weight compounds. High sensitivity detection of MA at ultra-low concentration is realized by using a competitive inhibition immunoreaction scheme based on the competition of free MA in solution for anti-MA molecules that bind to the bovine serum albumin (BSA)?MA conjugate on the gold nanoparticle surface. With the BSA?MA functionalized sensor fiber, in the presence of a fixed concentration of anti-MA and various concentrations of MA in sample, the change of transmitted light intensity through the sensor fiber relative to that in a buffer solution decreases when the MA concentration increases because of the inhibition effect of MA. Based on this sensing method, the MA-functionalized FOPPR biosensor is capable for determining the concentration of MA with high sensitivity and wide linear dynamic range of 1?1000 ng/mL. The limit of detection for MA is 0.16 ng/mL. In addition, the MA functionalized FOPPR biosensor can detect MA in diluted human urine samples without nonspecific adsorption interference.

Since the isolation and identification of the retinoid X receptor (RXR) as a member of the nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily in 1990, its analysis has ushered in a new understanding of physiological regulation by nuclear receptors, and novel methods to identify other unknown and orphan receptors. Expression of one or more of the three isoforms of RXR?alpha, beta, and gamma? can be found in every human cell type. Biologically, RXR plays a critical role through its ability to partner with other nuclear receptors. RXR is able to regulate nutrient metabolism by forming ?permissive? heterodimers with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR), liver-X-receptor (LXR), farnesoid X receptor (FXR), pregnane X receptor (PXR) and constitutive androstane receptor (CAR), which function when ligands are bound to one or both of the heterodimer partners. Conversely, RXR is able to form ?nonpermissive? heterodimers with vitamin D receptor (VDR), thyroid receptor (TR) and retinoic acid receptor (RAR), which function only in the presence of vitamin D, T3 and retinoic acid, respectively. Furthermore, RXR can form homodimers in the presence of a selective agonist, or rexinoid, to regulate gene expression and to either inhibit proliferation or induce apoptosis in human cancers. Thus, over the last 25 years there have been several reports on the design and synthesis of small molecule rexinoids. Traceless Solid-Phase Organic Synthesis

Traceless solid-phase synthesis represents an ultimate sophisticated synthetic strategy on insoluble supports. Compounds synthesized on solid supports can be released without a trace of the linker that was used to tether the intermediates during the synthesis. Thus, the target products are composed only of the components (atoms, functional groups) inherent to the target core structure. A wide variety of synthetic strategies have been developed to prepare products in a traceless manner, and this review is dedicated to all aspects of traceless solid-phase organic synthesis. Importantly, the synthesis does not need to be carried out on a linker designed for traceless synthesis; most of the synthetic approaches described herein were developed using standard, commercially available linkers (originally devised for solid-phase peptide synthesis). The type of structure prepared in a traceless fashion is not restricted. The individual synthetic approaches are divided into eight sections, each devoted to a different methodology for traceless synthesis. Each section consists of a brief outline of the synthetic strategy followed by a description of individual reported syntheses.

ATP3 and MTP3: Easily Prepared Stable Perruthenate Salts for Oxidation Applications in Synthesis

The Ley?Griffith tetra-n-propylammonium perruthenate (TPAP) catalyst has been widely deployed by the synthesis community, mainly for the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones, but also for a variety of other synthetic transformations (e.g. diol cleavage, isomerizations, imine formation and heterocyclic synthesis). Such popularity has been forged on broad reaction scope, functional group tolerance, mild conditions, and commercial catalyst supply. However, the mild instability of TPAP creates preparation, storage, and reaction reproducibility issues, due to unpreventable slow decomposition. In search of attributes conducive to catalyst longevity an extensive range of novel perruthenate salts were prepared. Subsequent evaluation unearthed a set of readily synthesized, bench stable, phosphonium perruthenates (ATP3 and MTP3) that mirror the reactivity of TPAP, but avoid storage decomposition issues.

One-pot synthesis of hydrous MnO2 nanowires for selective oxidative transformation of furfuryl alcohol

Hydrous MnO2 nanowires were easily synthesized by an one-pot synthesis with a simple hydrothermal method. As prepared hydrous MnO2 nanowires were characterized with scanning emission microscopy (SEM), transmit emission microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). They showed a good catalytic activity with the suitable nano-size of 4-5 nm and morphology. The furfuryl alcohol was selected as a substrate and the reaction was carried out in a toluene solvent at 100 ? under the atmospheric pressure of oxygen. The hydrous MnO2 nanowire catalyst exhibited an excellent yield of furfural with the first-rate selectivity and conversion. The catalytic performance during recycle tests was also carried out and the catalyst showed a good mechanical strength with a negligible loss in the activity over five reaction cycles.
