The preparation of an easily available, air/moisture insensitive electrophilic trifluoromethylating reagent, trifluoromethyl-substituted selenium ylide I [R = 4-OMe, Ph, 2-NO2, 3-NO2, 4-NO2, 3-Cl] and its reactions with a variety of nucleophiles including β-ketoesters, silyl enol ethers, aryl/heteroaryl boronic acids, electron-rich heteroarenes and sulfinates were described.
